Cutting your Dreads

You’ve most likely heard the question before: ” Won’t you have to shave your head if you don’t want your Dreads anymore?”
I would like to know what you’d answer?!

My answer would be: ‘No, you do not have to shave your head if you don’t want to wear your Dreads anymore.’ There are different ways to go back to your own hair.

Comb your Dreads out

One option is to comb through your Dreads. You must think ‘Boy, that's a lot of work.’ And yes, it is. I did this in 2019 and it took me over three weeks. Every day I did a couple of Dreads. And no, it was also not completely pain free. But it is possible!
The easiness of the process of taking the Dreads out, completely depends on how long you have worn your Dreads. The longer you had them, the denser they will be and the harder it will be to comb them out.
And yes, when the job is done, your hair will need a few masks and a nice cut. But you won't be bald, and that is very nice.

Grow your Dreads out and cut them

Another option is to grow out your Dreads for eight to fifteen centimeters. When the hair has grown enough, you cut off your Dreads. The advantage is that it is not very time consuming, pain free and you could keep your Dreads.
You just have to make sure that your hairs' outgrowth doesn’t lock in with the Dreads, which is often harder than it seems. Your hair and Dreads grow through a locking process, which means your hair might easily lock with the Dreads.

Use a Removal Kit

Within the Dreadlock world there are different Removal Kits you could use for taking out your Dreads. These products contain ingredients that make sure your Dreads become softer, which makes it easier to take out the knots of your hair. At Dreadshop we do not have these products in our assortment. Instead I would recommend using an oil or conditioner to soften your hair for the process.

So you don't have to go bald if you're sick of your dreads! Good thing!
