Tips how to apply your dreads
In our texts the terms dreads and dreadlocks are used as synonym. How do you know which type of dread fits you the best? Take a look at ‘What dread fits me?’
Length of your own hair to attach synthetic dreadlocks
Your hair must at least be 6 cm long if you want to apply synthetic dreads. It is possible with shorter hair, but there is a risk that the dreads may fall or slide out.
Requisites for applying your synthetic dreads
Besides your dreadlocks you need these things for applying your dreadlocks:
- Pointy comb
- Sturdy elastic bands
- Spray bottle
A spray bottle is useful to make your hair wet to part it. To make the partitions even you use a pointy comb. In addition, you need elastic bands to attach the dreads. We recommend this elastic bands. They do not snap. Other types are often of a lower quality and can snap, causing your dreadlocks to come undone and fall out.
How many synthetic dreads for a full head
The quantity of the dreadlocks varies per dreadtype. In the explanation of ‘What dread fits me?’ you'll find the exact amounts of dreadlocks per dreadtype.
Attach the dreadlocks to your hair
For the best result, we recommend having a specialist put them on. You will find some useful links on our linkpage. If you want to do it yourself or ask a friend, braiding is the best technique, using the double dread as two strands, and your own hair as a third. You braid the three strands and fix them at the bottom with an elastic band. You can check our video with de basic technic and the video with de french technic.
